My Top 24+ Landing Page Tips
When starting a new website or product, it's always the same question: How do I make my landing page more effective? With trial and error I've come up with some tips and tricks that seem to work well. But make sure to always test and iterate on your own landing page. A/B testing is your friend!
- Don't brag, focus on your customers needs instead - Your landing page should be about your customers needs, not about how your product is the best. Focus on the customers pain points and offer them a empathic solution.
- Good relevant Testimonials - Try to collect good relevant testimonials that are detailed and not just generic. Also try to put testimonials from a the same demographic as your target audience. Also you can highlight one important testimonial.
- Actionable CTA's - The CTA Links and buttons should sound actionable and specific. Instead of "Sign up" try "Get started for free", "Start your free trial" or "Get your free consultation".
- One single goal - Promote just one single goal, not two not three. Just one. If you have multiple goals, create multiple landing pages.
- Hide your nav if you have a massive site - Sounds unintuitive but you only want the user to either convert or leave. You don't want them to navigate away to all the other pages.
- Use FAQ's for objections - FAQ's are all about clearing up objections. Use them to clear up any doubts your customers might have.
- Use 3 Tier Pricing - If you have a pricing page, use 3 tier pricing. The middle tier should be the most attractive.
- Use selling techniques, but not too much - Scarcity, urgency, social proof, reciprocity, authority. Use these techniques to make your landing page more effective but don't overdo it, else you might come off as scammy. Timers, Coupons and Sales are effective, sometimes.
- Test with actual customers - If you can, test your landing page with actual customers. They will give you the best feedback and you can see how they interact with your page.
- Work out a customer flow - Work out a customer flow to understand all the steps needed to convert a customer. This will help you understand where you might lose customers.
- Free trials and money back guarantees - If you can, offer free trials and money back guarantees. This will make it easier for customers to trust you. You should do anything to lower the risks of adopting your product.
- Don't forget SEO - Make sure your landing page is SEO optimized, add open graph info, meta tags and a good title and description. Also make the page fast and mobile friendly.
- Limit supply and make it scarce - An offer that is always available is not an offer. Limit the supply and make it scarce. This will make your offer more attractive. Some also close the offer after a certain time frame and only open it after hyping it up again. Another technique is to limit the amount of customers that can buy your product or at least make the price go up after the first 100 sales or so.
- Social Proof - Show some logos, some testimonials, some case studies. Show that other people trust you.
- Decrease the options - The more options you give the customer, the less likely they are to convert. Decrease the options and simplify the decisions needed to be made.
- Make the user scroll - By strategically placing information and images you can make the user scroll. The more they scroll, the more likely they are to convert.
- Offer Demos - Offer demos without the need to pay or talk to a sales person. This will make it easier for customers to understand your product. Or at least show the customers how your product looks and works.
- Make the checkout hype you even more - When customers dare themselves to the checkout page - reassure them and hype them up even more.
- Don't stop seeing them as customers - After they converted, they are still customers. Make sure to keep them happy and engaged and send goodies and friendly welcome mails.
- Pre launch with limited discounts - If you can, pre launch your product with limited discounts. This will make it easier to get the first customers. And don't forget to hype your product months before and teaser your audience.
- Don't focus on features, focus on benefits - Customers don't care about your features or your tech, they care about the benefits. Make sure to highlight the benefits of your product for the customer.
- Storytelling - Tell a story about your product, how your product helps the hero in the story to overcome his obstacles. Customers are the hero, your product is the guide. And the obstacles are the pain points.
- Tell them why - You just don't sell the product, you sell it for a vision. Tell them why you are doing this and why they should care.
- Profesionally designed - Make sure your landing page is professionally designed. If you can't do it yourself, hire a designer. A good design can make a huge difference. It must deserve a chef's kiss.
- When in doubt, test it out - Tweak, Test and Evaluate your landing page. A/B test everything. You never know what might work better.
